“ It really is the heart of midwifery to support a woman to do what a woman knows she can do. It isn’t that our view of her birth is what prevails.” ~ Lesley Cragen, Certified Nurse Midwife

Barrie Midwives

All of us at Barrie Midwives are happy that you are considering midwifery care, or you have already chosen midwifery care. We look forward to getting to know you and to caring for you.

We love our work!
First, a few words* about how midwives approach your care …
We believe in your innate intelligence, self-knowledge, and ability. Our focus is on working and being with you. We support undisturbed birth and breastfeeding. Undisturbed doesn’t mean we leave you alone, it means our work is supporting you to grow and birth your baby and placenta, and to breastfeed. This support continues if interventions occur … We educate, inform, and listen to you and your support persons to explore ideas and come to understand the process of pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding. We encourage and affirm you.

We learn from you. Each of you teaches us something new and you learn from us.
We grow together.

* This description of how Barrie Midwives approach your care is adapted from a description of midwifery care by an independent homebirth Australian midwife.
